Have your opinion.
06/04/09 - Mobile-Monday Mozilla + Cibenix
So it was a Monday not everyone's favourite day of the week, but this was pretty cool Monday. It is not everyday here in sunny(raining) Northern Ireland do you see the likes of the famous non-profit organisation Mozilla creator's of the web-browser Firefox the email client Thunderbird and various other projects like bugzilla etc. With such a big project there has been a lot of technology created and designed by many creative minds at the mozilla labs and this is leading to a new open-source media player, songbird based on mozilla technology which makes it cross-platform as in Windows/Mac/Linux/BSD/Solaris.
So on 6th of April, it was arranged there would be a talk in the Invest NI building around half 5 or so with food ;) . So In true fashion I dashed off from work early to see what this was all about. The day was labelled 'Mobile Monday', so this specific talk had to do with mozilla's new venture into the mobile computing market, so porting a version of firefox code named fennec, to a mobile embeded platform. There are a lot of technical issue's and targets to meet, which I will highlight later. readmore
28/01/09 - Just a little nostalgia
So there was some time ago the question was posed.. and the fire starters were primed, "Emacs vs Vi". So where do your allegiances lie! You can check out our mailing list thread over @ : emacs-vi-thread. You can check out the goings on there! So lets take a peak through the results:
GNU/Emacs: 2
vi(m): 8
nano : 1
I guess the result is obvious (emacs won)! I just put people saying vi/vim in the same, because I am the die hard emacs user and counted Colin Turner's vote for emacs (even though you actually use geany).
I nearly feel like saying 'vim ooh i thought you mean emacs viper mode! (and use their votes to beef up emacs there!)'. But yeah I think this is/will-always-be some flame-war that rages on!
I think where emacs fails is at it takes a little bit of learning curve just to open it up and use it save a file and exit! Where as vim/vi's approach is much simpler and quicker, but i do feel the learning curve for emacs is definitely worth it! Some people use it as their mail client news reader and calender replacement. I guess us emacs advocates have to bide our time some time longer!
Peace <3 Gnu :)
